A key element to consider when putting together your content is how to set up the Courses themselves. Will the Course be standalone, or will other Courses tie-in to the same topic and theme? Do you have minimum grade requirements for key content, perhaps requiring learners to review select materials on a regular basis?

With that in mind, which of the following fits best with your Course needs?

Do you also require minimum grades achieved for select Courses?

Course Pattern 1 - The Incremental

The situation:

You have numerous steps of varying difficulties covering the same topic and want to group them accordingly.

Make it happen:

  • CREATE a series of Courses where the first Course contains all basic information, the second collects harder content, and so on

  • TIE them all together into one overarching learning adventure

The result:

Learners progress through materials at an appropriate pace, learning the fundamentals before progressing into more difficult content.

Course Pattern 2 - The Focused

The situation:

All materials within shared categories can be summarized into a handful of training games for each topic.

Make it happen:

  • CREATE individual Courses to highlight each focus

  • CONNECT Courses through their shared category

The result:

Learners can find related materials through their shared category and choose which aspect they'd like to focus on by completing the appropriate Course.

Certification Pattern 1 - Once is Enough

Certification In Progress - regular cert

The situation:

Particular learners/group(s) are required to finish a series of Courses (and achieve a grade equal to or higher than a specified minimum) to prove they did the work and know their stuff.

Make it happen:

  • GROUP all required Courses in a single Certification

  • ASSIGN the Certification to the appropriate learners/groups, complete with a due date

The result:

Learners must complete all Courses within the Certification by its due date, and they must achieve the minimum "Required Grade" in each Course for them to count toward completion.

Certification Pattern 2 - Rinse and Repeat

Certifications In Progress - renewable cert

The situation:

A particular series of Courses needs to be reviewed by group(s) (and learners must achieve a grade equal to or higher than a specified minimum) on a periodic basis to ensure they are kept current and compliant.

Make it happen:

  • GROUP all required courses in a single Certification

  • SET the Certification to be periodically renewed

  • ASSIGN the Certification to the appropriate learners/groups, complete with a due date

The result:

Learners must complete all Courses within the Certification by its due date, and they must achieve the minimum "Required Grade" in each Course for them to count toward completion.

Once completed, the Certification will periodically prompt the learner to review all materials at a frequency specified by the administrator. Learners must complete the Certification in its entirety each time it's renewed to keep their Certification completion status valid.
