How to keep a Course "secret" until a Trigger is triggered

When creating a Trigger, you can choose to have certain Courses hidden from view until learners meet a specific Trigger condition. But how exactly do you set that up?

Set Up the Trigger Course

Once you've created your Course, on the last page of the Course Wizard:

  • LEAVE BLANK the Groups selection box

  • DO NOT PUBLISH the Course

By doing this, the Course will be kept in "draft" mode and learners won't see the Course until the associated Trigger occurs.

Set Up the Trigger

Create a Trigger, then include the Trigger Course you left unpublished in the Trigger's Course Library assignment page.

Once saved, make sure to ENABLE the Trigger (top-right of screen).

Available to Some, Hidden for Others

You can set up a Course so it's immediately available for certain Groups yet is hidden from others until triggered.

To do this, within the Course's Groups box you must:

  • INCLUDE all Groups that should have immediate access

  • OMIT all Groups that shouldn't have immediate access

For Groups that should have access once they meet a Trigger's condition:

  • ADD the Groups to the Trigger itself

Note that if a Group is not specified in either the Course or its Trigger, that Group can neither see the Course nor Trigger it to unlock in their Course library.

That's all there is to it!
