Skill points accumulate over the course of a learner's learning journey through Skill Levels and graded Steps. They work together to Level Up learners, making their experience more immersive and rewarding.
In addition to being given grades and Happy Clients:
Steps award learners with points that go toward earning Skill Levels
Skill Levels are earned when their specified point values are met or exceeded
When you assign Skill points, you're deciding:
how many are needed for a learner to get to the next Skill Level
how many are awarded with each Step a learner completes
Skill Level Points
Points are assigned to Skills when you edit or create a Skill. You'll see something that looks like this:
Learners will always start with 0 points for every Skill. To get them even more interested and invested in the learning process:
ASSIGN small point values for the first few Levels
INCREASE point values as Level numbers increase
It's good practice to keep the amounts reasonable and attainable.
To give you an idea...
Do:
Level 1 = 5 points
Level 2 = 15 points
Level 3 = 30 points
Don't:
Level 1 = 100 points
Level 2 = 500 points
Inspire learners to push forward by assigning lower numbers to the first few Levels, giving them a taste of the victories to come!
Step Points
When creating a Step that uses a particular Skill, choose to include that Skill. You can have as many or as few Skills associated with a single Step, the sky's the limit!
After you tag the Skill(s) that will be awarded points in a Step, a box will pop up where you will specify how many points that Skill will be given:
When assigning points, consider:
difficulty of the Step
points needed for Skill Levels
Let's say the Step is easy, and the learner needs 5 points to achieve Level 1 in that Skill.
Do:
assign a 5-point reward
Don't:
assign 0 points
assign 100 points as a reward
You don't have to match rewarded points with Level amounts. (Unless you want to, of course!)
We do recommend you do it for the first Step or two. This will Level Up the learner's Skill right away and get them even more excited for your Steps and Courses!
Only administrators can see, and change, the amount of points Skill Levels need and Steps have.
Learners don't need to see that stuff anyway. After all, they'll be busy getting rewarded with shiny new Badges and higher Level numbers they can show off their progress with!
