Understanding what we mean by Skill

A Skill is something a learner will automatically use and develop when taking part in Steps and Courses.

What do we mean? Think of it this way:

  • How to Plant a Tree = Gardening Skill

  • How to Close a Sale = Sales Skill

  • Identifying Counterfeit Currency = Banking Skill

It's not possible to learn how to plant a tree without using your Gardening Skill, likewise with the other examples, because they automatically work together.

Skills Can Be Specific

You can choose to keep your Skills general, like the above examples, or you can break them down even further.

When looking at "Identifying Counterfeit Currency," other Skills used include:

  • Observation

  • Research

It's great to break down and name Skills in this way, but it is up to you how detailed, or general, you want them to be.

Skills Are Versatile

Since every Skill can be applied to more than one subject, you'll often see the same one used in other Steps.

Other topics that use the Gardening Skill:

  • soil selection

  • weather conditions

  • weeding

Other topics that use the Sales Skill:

  • customer communication

  • knowing your products

Find the Skills related to the topics you'll teach and you'll find the Skills we're looking for!
