Think about what you want to teach learners, then break it all down into the bare basics.
Find the Primary Skill
Let’s say your ultimate goal is to teach learners how to garden. Make that into a Skill:
Gardening
From there, decide if you want to add more Skills, or keep it super simple by stopping there.
Deciding On More Skills
Consider what learners will learn within the Primary Skill to identify more Skills.
For Gardening:
"How to Plant Trees" = Tree Care Skill
"Trimming Hedges" = Landscaping Skill
Oftentimes more than one Skill will be developed within the same topic, giving you several options when deciding what Skills to create. It's up to you how thorough you wish to be when defining them.
For example, the Steps in a "Pest Control" Course would also develop these Skills:
Observation
Problem Solving
Chemical Treatment
Don't Go Overboard
While it's great to have specific and defined Skills, keep it simple by grouping similar Skills under one heading.
Don't:
"Dealing with bad vegetation"
"Working around weather conditions"
"Deciding which tool works best"
Do:
"Problem Solving"
While the "Don't" list is great for Step and Course ideas, the "Do" list is the best Skill name as it can be applied to all of them - this makes it much easier to track a learner's progress in a given Skill across all of LemonadeLXP.
Simple, right?
Start with your Primary Skill to get things going and, with practice, you'll be a Skill-creating pro!
