Welcome to the New Hire Onboarding Curriculum. These curricula serve as guides to help admins create their lesson plans for onboarding new hires. We've also highlighted some suggested steps that can be found in the Content Exchange!


The Curriculum


This curriculum template is designed to help Admins organize/create their lesson plan for onboarding new employees.

To help tackle this, we've suggested the following topics to help guide you in your Onboarding course creation journey. We've included brief overviews of what to focus on for each topic and the suggested step types.

Suggested Topics

Welcome to [Company Name]

This course is suggested to contain a general introduction to the company that applies to any or most new hires.

Welcome to [Company Name]

  • A warm welcome to the new employee, along with a brief overview of the company.

    • Suggested step type: Scenario or Video

What You Can Expect

  • How employee induction will work; a roadmap for training (# of courses, course themes, step themes included in each course).

    • Suggested step type: Link or Text

Our Mission and Values

  • It aims for employees to discover the standards that create the company's foundation.

    • Suggested step type: MultiChoice or True or False

Meet the Teams

  • Introductions from Managers and Leads to describe their team's function(s) within the company.

    • Suggested step type: Human, Sorting, or Video

How we Operate

  • Reinforce what was described in the previous step.

Getting Around

  • An Office map, entrances, fire exits, parking information, etc.

      *Note: For the Demo approach - Have the learner click through a map to identify entrances and locations of note. If parking is reimbursed, you can also include a demo for submitting this. You can also include nearby parks/cafes/lunch spots, etc.

Remote Work Practices or Working from Home

  • General info relating to communication practices, work hours (sign in, sign out), managing breaks, and managing workspaces.

Platforms, Communications, and Events

  • How the company will correspond with new employees, an overview of platforms used, and regular milestones/celebrations/events.

  • Restating the welcome message/reinforcing steps moving forward.

This course can be tailored to the new employee's team or capacity and could include an opening or closing message from the Team Manager/Lead. This can also expand into 2+ courses as needed.

Introduction to Microsoft Outlook (if applicable)

  • A 4-part series in the Content Exchange covering navigating Microsoft Outlook email and additional features.

    Note: Would you be interested in more? A 3-part series on 'Microsoft Outlook: The Calendar' is also available on the Content Exchange.

People and Resources

This course can be general or tailored to a specific group/team and is suggested to include benefits, HR information for the new employee, etc.

Sick, Vacation, and Personal Days

  • How to log/request days off, amount of paid days off, etc.

    Note: You can expand steps into "part 2" Demo courses for submitting requests.

Benefits Overview

  • Health, wellness, retirement contributions, and more.

Quirks and Perks

  • A general closing statement lets new employees know they've completed the onboarding courses.

Feedback and Appraisals

  • Informal vs. Formal feedback; how/when/with who formal appraisals take place and what an employee can expect; giving and receiving feedback.

    • Suggested step type: MultiChoice, Streak, or Text

In this course, an employee will learn how [Company Name] work philosophy informs how we work with one another.

Welcome to Our Philosophy of Work

  • General intro to workplace culture, philosophy, and values.

  • It focuses on how productivity is used to communicate rather than how to use it (reviewed in the Platforms, Processes, and Pipelines Course), tips regarding tone, status updates, tagging, which channels to use for what topics, etc.

  • How/when team meetings are run (both general and individual teams); what you can expect from meetings, best practices for contributions, etc.

Remote Working

  • Best practices for communicating when remote working.

    Note 1: This step can be eliminated if a workplace is entirely in person.

    Note 2: While the earlier step on this topic in the "Welcome To [Company Name]" course focused on the practicalities of remote working, this step should focus on communication, productivity/time management.

Working Together

  • Best practices for team projects, how to approach the team, and collaboration at a distance (if applicable).

    • Suggested step type: MultiChoice, Scenario, or True or False

DEI Level 1: Intro to DEI

  • A 6-part series available on the Content Exchange that introduces an employee to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the workplace.

    Note: Would you be interested in more? A 7-part "DEI Level 2" series is also available on the Content Exchange and dives deeper into this topic.

Workplace Safety

  • A 6-part series on the Content Exchange covering the workplace's physical safety practices.

Time Management

In this course, an employee will learn the best practices for time management, including how to best organize their day and set (and hit!) short-term, mid-term, and long-term goals.

Intro to Time Management

  • Intro to the general topic of time management.

    • Suggested step type: Scenario or Video

      Note: Step suggestions are designed to provide a variety of choices to the content writer (i.e., the writer can choose one or all of the options based on their course needs).

Organizing Your Day

  • General guidance on how to best organize/manage the day.

    Note: Companies can insert more specific time management themes as needed (i.e., how to plan for monthly reporting).

Managing Breaks

  • How to organize/maintain/fill breaks throughout the day, including break suggestions (mindfulness, fitness, coffee, etc.)

Managing Distractions

  • How to take a proactive approach to distractions and deal with unexpected distractions.

    • Suggested step type: MultiChoice or True or False

Short-term Goals

  • How to set short-term goals; how to evaluate whether you've hit them (i.e., end-of-day reflection)

Mid-term Goals

  • How to set mid-term goals and evaluate whether you've hit them (i.e., end-of-day reflection).
