Tips for Naming Course Categories Your Learners Will Understand

Define Categories and link appropriate Courses like a pro

Updated over 2 weeks ago

When learners aren't sure which Course to play—or want to focus on a particular theme—they can browse by Category. Categories are how you group and label Courses by topic. A well-named Category makes content easier to find and more intuitive to navigate.

🏷️ Naming Your Category

Ask yourself:

"What do my Courses have in common?"

Let’s say you have the following Courses:

  • Opening New Accounts

  • KYC and CIP Essentials

  • Understanding Beneficial Ownership

All of them relate to compliance with customer identification. A great Category name might be: Customer Due Diligence

Now, learners looking for compliance-related content will find all the relevant Courses under one roof.

📦 Assigning Courses to Categories

Once your Categories are set, assign each Course to the most relevant one. But remember:

🛑 Each Course can only be assigned to one Category.

If a Course seems to span multiple areas, revisit your Category names and Course titles. You may want to:

  • Break Categories down further (e.g., instead of "Compliance," try "AML Compliance" or "Privacy Compliance")

  • Clarify Course topics so their primary theme is more obvious
