Reference Steps – Support Without Overwhelming

Use Reference Steps to share non-graded content. They’re ideal for background info or optional reading—great for support.

Updated this week

🧠 Tip: Use Reference Steps to support learning—not carry it. Always pair them with interactive steps to reinforce key concepts.

Text Step

Best for: Internal notes, how-tos, and visual comparisons
Learning impact:

  • Supplements core concepts with structured reading

  • Encourages review at the learner’s own pace

  • Great for visual aids or process overviews

Best practices:

  • Keep under 500 words—this Step scrolls

  • Use bolding, bullets, and spacing for easy skimming

  • Break long content into multiple Text Steps

  • Add images (e.g., screenshots, diagrams)

  • Use only when necessary to avoid “wall of text” fatigue

🧾 Think of this step as a digital handout, not a lesson.

Link Step

Best for: Directing learners to helpful pages or tools
Learning impact:

  • Encourages exploration of external resources

  • Supports self-directed learning

  • Reinforces the idea that learning happens beyond the platform

Best practices:

  • Link directly to the exact content (not the homepage)

  • Avoid rotating or unstable pages (e.g., blogs)

  • Add a brief note explaining what the link offers

  • Use sparingly—it’s not meant for core teaching

🌐 Best used for supplemental material or "further reading."

Attachment Step

Best for: Sharing handouts, forms, and printable guides
Learning impact:

  • Extends the learning experience outside the platform

  • Makes documentation available for download and offline use

  • Enables action through things like forms and checklists

Best practices:

  • Rename files clearly (e.g., Account_Opening_Checklist.pdf)

  • Add early for prep or late for review

  • Use with Human Steps to track follow-up actions

  • Indicate whether it's optional or required reading

📂 Great for compliance checklists, job aids, and takeaways.

Link Listener Step

Best for: Embedding interactive content hosted outside LemonadeLXP
Learning impact:

  • Connects custom-built or legacy tools into one experience

  • Tracks engagement with external properties

  • Supports multi-modal, cross-system learning

Best practices:

  • Requires LemonadeLXP listener code + dev support

  • Use for simulations, product sandboxes, or pre-built tools

  • Clearly describe what the learner will see or do

  • Test thoroughly before publishing

⚙️ Powerful for teams with custom content or advanced integrations.

SCORM Step

Best for: Integrating existing SCORM 1.2 training modules
Learning impact:

  • Lets you reuse legacy eLearning content

  • Creates a seamless bridge between systems

  • Useful for compliance or vendor-provided training

Best practices:

  • Use SCORM 1.2 format (.zip file)

  • One SCORM per step

  • Set tracking properly (complete/incomplete or score)

  • Include estimated duration if longer than 5 minutes

🔄 Not interactive within LemonadeLXP—but still counts toward the journey.
