But how do you figure out which ones to use?

Attachment

Creation Challenge

How it Works

Learners download an attached file to obtain a copy and view its material.

Best suited for documents and reference materials learners are required to review or sign/fill out.

Not suited for content you need users to fully remember. (Non-interactive = less retention!)

Perfect for:

  • Required documents

  • Reference materials

  • Extra resources

Crossword

Crossword Step Icon

Creation Challenge

How it Works

Learners read clues and type answers in a crossword grid to solve the puzzle.

Best suited for single-word answers with one correct answer per hint/question.

Not suited for number-based answers.

Perfect for:

Demo / Simulation

Demo Step Icon

How it Works

  • Demo: Learners actively follow a guided step-by-step tutorial by directly interacting with a series of images. Once they're comfortable, they do it all over again - all on their own!

  • Simulation: Learners freely interact with a series of images to experience how software generally functions and flows.

Best suited for visual demonstrations that show how learners should use or do something.

Not suited for read-only material.

Perfect for:

  • Typing tutorials

  • Database tutorials

  • Teaching how to use apps /software

How it Works

Learners do something with a colleague, like a one-on-one or group meeting.

Best suited for documenting in-person and live teaching /check-in moments between learners and their mentors.

Not suited for any content with zero human interaction.

Perfect for:

  • Scheduling general follow-up and check-in meetings

  • In-person learner assessments

  • Group meetings/webinars requiring attendance confirmation

How it Works

MultiChoice

MultiChoice Step Icon

How it Works

It is similar to a multiple-choice quiz, but learners can select each valid answer simultaneously instead of just one "all of the above" option.

Best suited for lists of information and topics with multiple correct answers.

Not suited for content with only one correct answer. (Use Streak instead! If you must use MultiChoice, check our Writing Guide on this variant first!)

Perfect for:

  • Product benefits

  • Product features

  • Steps in a process

Polygraph

How it Works

It challenges users to spot and correct the mistakes in a paragraph, causing them to pay much more attention to what they're reading.

Best suited for repurposing your existing text-based training content.

Not suited for quick facts. (You need enough information to write a fairly lengthy paragraph)

Perfect for:

  • Existing paragraph content

  • Almost anything

Scenario

How it Works

Role-playing that simulates a conversation - users are presented with dialogue options and asked to choose the most appropriate answer.

Best suited for testing the application of information in realistic customer/peer interactions. (Particularly useful for teaching the delivery of customer service and product knowledge.)

Not suited for information that wouldn’t naturally come up in a conversation. (Like how many stores you have, etc.)

Perfect for:

  • Customer service best practices

  • How to sell a product

  • Dealing with an upset client/colleague

How it Works

How it Works

Learners are presented with a question and several list items. They must reorganize the list of items into the correct order, from top to bottom, to complete the question.

Best suited for testing knowledge of step-by-step procedures and order of importance.

Not suited for general lists of tasks that can be flexibly addressed.

Perfect for:

  • Reviewing required steps in an ordered process/procedure

  • Addressing the hierarchy of critical topics and concepts

Sorting

How it Works

Learners are presented with a category and a list of facts. They must quickly drag one correct list item to the proper category in each round to max out their score!

Best suited for supplemental rounds testing knowledge of specific products or definitions, as long as they don't have overlapping features.

Not suited for any facts that aren't clearly distinguishable from other included facts.

Perfect for:

  • Features and benefits of multiple products/services

  • Identifying differences between select definitions or topics of interest

How it Works

Classic quiz round - users decide whether the question/statement is true or false.

Best suited for testing or correcting specific behaviors. (Particularly useful for spotting group or company-wide knowledge gaps!)

Not suited for anything with numbers. (Users won’t remember the number in the question, use Streak instead!)

Perfect for:

  • Policies

  • Required behavior
